POI Pilot switches off after a few seconds, what is the reason?

If the display turns off a few seconds after the device starts, this can have two causes:

1. You have activated the Auto Start/Stop function and are operating the device without a cable. In this case, the device will automatically switch off after a few seconds. The device will automatically turn back on when you connect the cable. If you want to use the device again in normal battery mode, deactivate the Auto Start/Stop function as follows: M > Plus until L5 System Settings > M > Plus until Auto Start/Stop > M > Plus until OFF > M

2. You have set the "automatic display shutdown when no alert is active", and therefore the display automatically turns off when no speed camera alert is currently being issued. The device is fully functional in this state and will issue alerts when needed. During an alert, the display will automatically become active again. You can deactivate this function as follows: M > Plus until L5 System Settings > M > Plus until automatic display shutdown when no alert > M > Plus until OFF > M

I do not receive an activation code on the display, what could be the reason?

If you want to activate the device and do not see an activation code on the display, this can have the following reasons:

1. The device is already activated with another account. Please contact our Support providing the IMEI number (located under the battery).

2. You are in an area without 2G mobile reception. Please try the activation again in an area with 2G mobile coverage.

3. The SIM card is not inserted correctly. Please remove the battery and check the correct position of the SIM card.

4. You have not waited long enough. It may take 1–2 minutes before the activation code is displayed. Beforehand, a firmware update may need to be installed, shown on the display as FU 0. FU stands for Firmware Update and the number indicates the percentage already loaded.

Can I connect the device to a PC and perform an update that way?

No, the POI Pilot connected does not need to be connected to a PC for activation or data updates. Activation and data updates are carried out exclusively via the built-in mobile connection.

I have two or more devices, can I use all of them with one account?

Please create a separate POIbase account for each POI Pilot connected. Currently, only one device can be managed per POIbase account.

What is the purpose of the SD card slot next to the SIM card?

The SD card slot currently has no function, and no SD card is required for operation. The memory expansion may play a role in future functional developments.

What ongoing costs are incurred when using the POI Pilot connected?

With the free activation of the POI Pilot connected after purchase, no additional costs are incurred in the first year. After the first year, updates can be extended for €2 per month (annual payment). The price includes all costs for the POIbase and blitzer.de databases, as well as the costs for the SIM card. The renewal can be made as a subscription (PayPal required) or as a one-time payment (various payment methods, including bank transfer).

My device reports "Warning, no data stored on the device". What should I do?

This message appears on the POI Pilot connected when no or incomplete speed camera data is stored on the device. This condition can occur immediately after initial setup, when the speed camera data is loaded onto the device for the first time. The download takes between 10–20 minutes depending on the country coverage. During this time, the device display shows "UP xx", where the number indicates the update progress in percent. The device issues this message every few minutes until all data has been fully loaded.
From time to time, it may also be necessary during operation to delete all data from the device and reload it as an update. In this case, the device issues the mentioned message. Even with these larger updates, which may occur every few months, the reinstallation runs automatically and is displayed accordingly on the device. The message automatically disappears once all data has been loaded again. Please leave the device turned on until the "UP xx" display reaches "UP 100" and the device reports a successful update. If the update freezes, please restart the device, normally the device will then automatically resume the update. Please ensure that sufficient and stable network coverage is available during the update.

I get the error message "GEr" on the display

This error message can have two causes:

1) The battery is defective and must be replaced. After many years of use, the battery may be worn out, and the GPS module can no longer be sufficiently powered, causing this error message. Whether the device is connected to power, the battery level shows 100%, etc., makes no difference — a worn battery causes this error.

2) The GPS module is defective (very rare). If the device sounds strange or has a deep voice, the GPS module may be defective, please contact the seller.

In most cases, the battery is the cause. A new battery can be ordered in our Shop.
